Paige's Journey Paige was born and raised on a farm just outside of a small village called Creemore, Ontario. After graduating college, she moved to Toronto, Ontario where she began a career as a Legal Assistant. After a few years, Paige decided it was time to spread her wings. Using London as a base, she spent two years working and travelling around Europe. When her working holiday visa expired, she ventured out West to Whistler, BC. Whistler marked a turning point in her life. That was where Paige's journey in holistic nutrition and her love for cycling was born. Paige's cycling experience first started in Whistler in the summer of 2005 when, on a whim, she borrowed a friend’s mountain bike and tested out some of the local trails. From that moment forward, biking became central to her lifestyle. She dabbled in some mountain bike races and soon learned that road riding was a way to become faster. And it turned out that Paige loves racing road bikes! There is something about speed, wind and strategizing that makes her feel alive. In order to better support her active lifestyle, Paige started seriously considering what she was fuelling herself with. She decided to meet with a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and had a lightbulb moment – Paige knew she wanted to learn more on this subject. For as long as Paige can remember, she struggled with her weight. She tried many different diets and had many ups and downs (aka yo-yo’ing) with her weight. At the height of it, she weighed just over 200 pounds. Paige packed up again and headed down the Sea to Sky highway to Vancouver, BC where she resumed her career as a Securities Paralegal. In 2008, work slowed down, stress somewhat lifted and Paige saw her moment to enroll into the Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) program. At the time, she did not think this was going to be a career change; she was just really interested to know more about food, what was going on when it entered her body, and how to combat the stresses in her life. Upon graduating from the RHN program, Paige realized that after fifteen years of working in law, this industry was not serving her anymore. Once again, she sold everything she owned and in 2012 went travelling to Central America to reconsider how she was living her life. Paige spent six weeks in Guatemala learning Spanish and then continued down to her favourite place in Costa Rica. This was her fifth trip to Costa Rica. When she went there for the first time, she fell in love with the country; its beauty and its people. Their attitude towards life is one that she strives to maintain: to live fully. Paige's first visit there one of the locals greeted her with a “Pura Vida” and she thought, what does that mean? Pura Vida (pronounced poo-rah vee-dah) literally means pure life. It is an emotion, an attitude, a happiness and a way of life. Now that’s what Paige calls living fully! |
